From the Persian perspective; he was considered a devil; a villain. A BBC documentary by Michael Wood; “In The Footsteps of Alexander” shows a festival in Iran where he is actively despised.
From the Indian POV; and present-day Pakistan etc(South Asia); the country is largely oblivious of ancient history; qualifier; if somebody wants to interject; I am talking about general tendencies; there are some individuals very fond of discussion and debate on the old world; so let’s discount them.
A lot of stories in the Middle Ages(medieval Europe)(Alexander Romances) perpetuated the story and kept it alive; the first one in the series was a Greek text; Historia Alexander Magni. So; he’s generally a pop hero here.
