New Godzilla Trailer Gives Glimpse Of Terrifying Monster

By Aglaia Staff

Just yesterday there was a little rash of audio teasers for director Gareth Edwards’ upcoming Godzillareboot. The most spine tingling of which was Bryan Cranston’s Joe Brody going full on Panicked Walter White and proclaiming (amongst other things): “What’s really happening is that you’re hiding something out there. It is going to send us back to the Stone Age. You have no idea what’s coming.”

Now we know what he was talking about. In the new full official trailer – not to be confused with the teaser which just showed a bunch of soldiers air-dropping onto what seemed to be the back of the beast – we get a sense of the scale of this new Godzilla. And he is massive. He’s also apparently wreaking a path of destruction across San Francisco to Asia to Las Vegas that no one can stop. This trailer also has a bunch of talk about how “in 1954 we awakened something” and something else about nuclear tests in the Pacific. So far it seems like Edwards’ film will have a lot of mood, suspense, and action — and ties to Godzilla’s origins — but it’s still hard to tell if it’ll be all dread and no fun.

But bottom line, Legendary Pictures’ new version of Godzilla, which hits theaters May 16 and stars future Avengers: Age of Ultron players Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch) and Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Quicksilver), looks monstrously epic. We’ll have to wait and see if it’s also a massively good time.

Eydie Gorme, Voice of Pop, Dies At 84

By Aglaia Staff

Eydie Gorme, the lively singer with a remarkable range who performed a decades-long act with her husband, Steve Lawrence, that made them the sweethearts of mid-20th-century American pop music, died on Saturday in Las Vegas. She was 84.

Her death was confirmed by Howard Bragman, her publicist.

“If we came out in jeans and sneakers, it would be ridiculous,” Ms. Gorme said in an interview. “We’re stuck with who we are.”

And they specialized in old-married-folk banter that was slightly naughty by pre-sexual-revolution standards. At one point in their “tux and gown” nightclub act, they would dance elegantly and Mr. Lawrence would make a grand gesture, a dramatic dip. When she would say, “I’m getting nauseous,” he would respond, “That used to excite you.”

Despite their long and successful marriage, they had the usual marital disputes, but Mr. Lawrence said it helped the act.

“One of the best shows we ever had was after a terrible argument,” he recalled in 1992. “The orchestra was starting to call divorce lawyers. Who knew what it was about? We went on the stage so hostile. Clenched teeth. I was saying everything a husband always wants to say to his wife. I mean — venomous. And the more we snapped at each other, the more the audience loved it. After the show we were fine. It was like therapy.”

Ms. Gorme and Mr. Lawrence, who starred in a 1958 summer-replacement television series “The Steve Lawrence-Eydie Gorme Show,” won a 1960 Grammy Award as best pop duo and a 1979 Emmy Award in the outstanding comedy-variety or music program

The 2013 CES

By Sunil Kumar

One of the biggest fairs in the consumer electronics industry; the CES kicks off on Tuesday in Las Vegas. This is the forum where big guns such as Samsung, Sony, Intel, and more show off their latest and greatest technologies. In the past, electronics such as the CD player, camcorder, and VCR made their stateside debuts at CES. More recently, HDTV, tablets, and the Microsoft Xbox have been unveiled at the conference.

A few announcements this year: ultra-high definition televisions with large screens, evolution in smartphone glass technology, a new version of the Optimus and the Galaxy S4. Intel is going to introduce a new processor; the Bay Trail-T to take on Nvidia‘s Tegra and Qualcomm‘s S4. With CEA estimates that factory-installed automotive technology will generate $8.7 billion dollars in 2013, so it’s no wonder seven major car companies will be on the show floor.

The launch of a corresponding ecosystem means that companies from over 150 countries will be on display.
