The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) ┬árecognised Mrs. Kumar and Aplab’s contribution in productionisation, based on DRDO technology, of auto-control units for cathodic protection of naval and coast guard ships, active shaft grounding system, sine wave inverters and electronic load for fuel cells, power pack for Samyukta and battery chargers for the Pinaka project, a multi-barrel rocket launcher used in the Kargil war. One of the core focus areas in the next decade is going to be in nanotechnology; with applications in areas such as nanocomposites, nanocoatings, nanosensors and nanomedicine being used.

India is already the biggest importer in the world. The creation of a military-industrial complex and a conglomerate is essential for the country to create sustainable impact. There is a need to involve academic institutions and industry. The country already has core capabilities in IT and biotechnology.
